A Tall Order- male circumcision

There is some discussion about “encouraging” parents to have males babies circumsized. Studies in Africa are showing that it may decrease the prevalence of HIV transmission. Here in the USA the situation is different. Remember that Africa has a much higher prevalence of HIV and AIDS. It is impossible to have mandatory circumcision in this country even if it targets  high risk populations here- such as black and Hispanics. This is a decision that parents have to make for their child. Exception-  the Jewish population where it is a part of the culture, and anybody considering a porn career. A child is usually circumcised without anesthesia. Just an alcohol swab..  and it’s done . The baby cries for a few minutes and all is forgotten. Babies don’t have any memory of such things happening. OK, there is the cult that thinks this is cruel and mutilating. But many men and women consider it clean and hygienic.

Now here are two points you may not have considered :

1. No one can predict how big the penis will grow. It could be 5 inches or it could be 12 inches! The skin at the head of the penis (glans) can become taught and hyper-sensitive. This is a potential problem if too much foreskin is cut off.

2. I have witnessed men who come in for foreskin restoration! They really believe the foreskin makes a difference.  This is a longer surgery that requires general or regional (spinal/epidural) anesthesia. After the surgery there is a longer recovery period.

3. I don’ t want to digress, but while we are the subject of penises . Note that there are 25,000 penile implants placed in men with erectile dysfunction each year.  Sizes range from 10 to 14 inches!!! Many of these men are 60-70 years old, diabetic and with heart disease. I assure you that there are no 70 year old women getting that type of action. Reverence AND Respect
